China announces visa-free policy for six European countries

China has decided to expand its 15-day visa-free travel policy to six additional European countries, including Hungary.





On March 7, 2024, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its new visa-free policies. China has opted to expand its existing 15-day visa-free travel provision to six additional European countries on a trial basis, they are Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Starting from March 14th, 2024, until November 30th, 2024, During the specified period, ordinary passport holders from these nations will have the privilege of entering China without the need for a visa. This favorable arrangement is applicable for various purposes, including business trips, tourism, visiting family and friends, and transit.


Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced this news on Thursday, emphasizing the hope for other countries to take corresponding actions, He said, “We hope more countries will also offer Chinese citizens visa facilitation and work with us to build fast-track networks for cross-border travels and encourage speedy resumption of international passenger flights.”


This decision reflects China's proactive approach towards facilitating entry procedures for foreigners, in line with its broader goals outlined in the 2024 Government Work Report. By streamlining visa regulations, China aims to bolster its attractiveness as a destination for international travel, study, and business. Additionally, this move seeks to foster greater collaboration and personnel exchanges between China and its European counterparts.
